In the second quarter of 2017, VDMA is opening an office in Vienna due to the increasing member figures in Austria and more specifically due to the increasing demand for VDMA services in those companies. Georg C. Priesner will be the contact person in Vienna. He has years of experience within the association and a strong industrial network in Austria.

Priesner will strengthen the contact to the VDMA members in Austria and intensify the internal network among the members. He is available to all VDMA members in Austria for help and advice when it comes to using the appropriate VDMA services for specific challenges. The goal is to provide tailored information from the international VDMA network by means of a competent, local contact and to support members in their daily work.

Up to now, the VDMA members in Austria have been overseen by the VDMA office in Munich. Naturally, they will continue to be invited to VDMA Bavaria events in the future. The cross-border exchange of experience has been very popular in recent years.

Georg Priesner, VDMA Austria.

Clark Europe GmbH will celebrate a special birthday this year: 100 years ago, the mechanical engineer and businessman Eugene Bradley Clark developed the first forklift, a vital innovation that daily logistics today could not do without. In 1917, the American manufactured twist drills for the railway industry as well as steel wheels and axles for cars in Buchanan, Michigan. But while doing this, he asked himself: How can I move materials from one place to another more quickly and cheaply and without man power? This was specifically intended for the transport of sand and heavy castings on the factory site.

Thus, Clark invented a three-wheeled platform truck with a container for up to two tons of load. The vehicle had inverted steering and there were no brakes. Nevertheless, the "Tructractor" served its purpose. In 1920 came the "Truclift", the first petrol-driven truck, before Clark launched the first forklift truck with a hydraulic lifting device in 1928 called the "Tructier". In 1976, Clark manufactured his 500,000th lift truck. In 1997, the forklift surpassed the one million mark. Of the more than 1.3 million forklifts produced since 1917, more than half are still in use today.
